By Jason Melillo May 8, 2024 | 5:03 AM

Delores A. Helwig, 91, formerly of Arcadia, died Monday, May 6, 2024 at Riverside Transitional Care in La Crosse surrounded by her family. She was born April 18, 1933 to George and Elizabeth (Suchla) Klonecki. She was raised in Arcadia where she attended school and helped her parents on the farm. On September 17, 1955, she married Loren Helwig and together they had four children.

Delores worked at St. Joseph Hospital for 43 years before retiring. She was always bringing home the residents’ clothing that needed mending and returned them the next day patched up and good as new. She loved to crochet baby blankets, afghans, and even made quilts and rugs. She spent her retirement years volunteering at the Mission House sorting clothing and helping with funerals
and church festivals. And her love for rummage sales was second to none.

She is survived by her children, Mike (Elva) Helwig, Jean (Bob) Spitzer, Carol (David) Weber; grandchildren, Tommy Spitzer, Casey (Courtney) Killian, John (Abigail) Helwig, and Katie Killian; one great-granddaughter, Peyton; and sister, Theresa Klonecki.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren; parents; sister, Ruth Powell; daughter, Beverly (Robert) Kennebeck; and granddaughter, Maria.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 10, 2024 at Holy Family Parish with Reverend Kyle Laylan officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until the time of Mass. Delores will be laid to rest in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. To leave an online condolence for her family, please visit www.wozneykillianfh.com.
