James F. Stanislawski, Sr.

James F. Stanislawski, Sr., 88, of Winona died on April 28, 2024 at Gunderson St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Wabasha.

James Francis Stanislawski was born on November 3, 1935 in Winona. He attended Winona area schools and graduated from Winona-Cotter High School, and also worked at Bloedow’s Bakery. Following graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and was stationed in Delaware. He served his country from July 19th of 1955 through January 6th of 1961. While in the service he met Edith Minner and the two were united in marriage on February 24, 1959 in Felton, DE. The couple made their home in Winona and raised their two sons. James worked at Lake Center Switch, ORC Industries of Winona and Winona State University where he was a baker. James was a storyteller and had many great memories from his time in the Air Force. He loved fishing as a young boy, baking his famous pumpkin bars, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and dancing with friends in the Winona area.

James is survived by his sons James Jr. (Ann) of Rochester and John (Kim) Winona, his grandchildren Matt (Scarlet) of Rochester, Ashley (Jordan) Rishavy of Rochester, Lauren of Winona, Michael of Winona and Jacob (Abby) of Eau Claire, WI. He is further survived by 6 great-grandchildren Declan, Cruz, Bria, Teagan, Reyna and Rylan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edith, on November 7, 2005 and two brothers Tony and Alex.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Hoff Funeral Home in Winona from 11-12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024 with a sharing of memories at 12:00 p.m.

Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Winona. Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons.

Memorials can be given in his name to the charity of your choice.
