(KWNO)-In January 2024 the American Red Cross declared a national emergency due to a blood shortage. There are four upcoming blood drives in Winona in April and the Red Cross is encouraging everyone who is able to donate. In the last 20 years blood donations have fallen 40%. Widespread shortages “can have a huge impact on the availability of blood products and dramatic consequences for those in need of emergency blood transfusion,” according to the Red Cross.
