Sen. Drazkowski pushing to limit remote voting for lawmakers

By Jason Melillo Apr 18, 2024 | 11:44 AM

(KWNO)-Republican state Senator Steve Drazkowski, whose district encompasses a large part of Winona County, pushed to totally eliminate remote voting for lawmakers. Minnesota Senate Democrats are ostensibly willing to tighten the rules, allowing remote voting only if a senator is involved in military service or for their health or safety, or for that of a family member. The senator would also need caucus leader approval. Drazkowski calls it “a strong step in the right direction.”

Democrats have only a one-vote majority in the Senate, but Drazkowski says any implication that he’s trying to prevent someone from voting so Republicans can temporarily take control is a “cheap shot from the left.” Drazkowski says if a senator is ill he’s “perfectly fine” with that person voting remotely.
