(KWNO)-A man firing a gun with children in the house led to an hours long standoff on Monday night. Lewiston Police and Winona County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a townhome on Benson Drive around 9:20 p.m. Neighbors had reported hearing yelling and gunshots. The man inside the house, later identified as 38-year-old Lance Rashawn Gore, would not come out. Residents in the adjoining townhomes were evacuated and around 10:30 p.m. the Emergency Response Team (ERT) responded. The ERT is a unit of officers with special training in diffusing dangerous situations.

ERT negotiated with Gore for several hours and he eventually came out of the house with two children, ages 14 and 13. Gore, who is on probation, is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and being a felon in possession of a gun. Investigators believe Gore fired two rounds from a long gun prior to officers arriving on the scene. One bullet was found in the ceiling and another outside the residence. That bullet may have been fired through an open window.
