Gerald H. “Joe” Conrad, 73 formerly of Fountain City, WI, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024, after a 30-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis, at Vernon Manor, Viroqua, WI.

Joe was born October 28, 1950, in Arcadia, WI to Rosalie (Bork) and Melvin Conrad. He graduated from Cochrane-Fountain City High School in 1968 and received a degree in accounting from Southeast Area Technical College. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from July 23, 1970 until his honorable discharge March 25, 1974, spending time in the U.S. and at the San Vito dei Normanni Air Station, Italy.

He was a life-long area resident of Fountain City, except for the time he was employed at Josten’s Company, Owatonna, MN. He returned to Fountain City where in 1985 he opened Joe’s Place. He was an avid Packer and Badger fan, and it was known that service might be just a bit slower if either team’s game was on TV. When not at the bar he enjoyed bowling and working on adding to his extensive beer stein collection.

Joe is survived by his sister Kathi (Kevin) Skemp; a brother Rich (Nancy) Conrad; nieces: Nicole (Jason) Fischer and Kelly (Jess) Christensen; four great niece and nephews; his godmother Betty Bork and aunt Leah Bork.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Fred.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2024, at St. Michael’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Fountain City, WI with Rev. Douglas Westenberg officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Military honors will follow the service outside of the church after which a lunch will be served in the church basement. Private interment will be at Fountain City Public Cemetery, Fountain City, WI.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Joe’s caregivers throughout these last years at St. Michael’s Lutheran Home, Creamery Creek Senior Living, Vernon Manor, and St. Croix Hospice.
