(KWMN)- The 2023-24 Minnesota Mr. Basketball Award, given to the most outstanding senior player in the state, was announced last Thursday by the Mr. Basketball of Minnesota Committee.
Jackson McAndrew, 6’9 forward for Wayzata, is the recipient of this year’s Mr. Basketball.
McAndrew averaged 23.7 points 10.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists and led his team the state championship game in class 4A where they lost to Minnetonka. McAndrew had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
McAndrew will close his Wayzata career having reached four state championship games–winning twice–and now can add a Mr. Basketball to the trophy case. McAndrew will continue his playing career at the next level for Greg Mcdermott at Creighton University.
The other four finalist that didn’t get the nod included Isaac Asuma (Guard, Cherry), Casmir Chavis (Guard Park Center), Daniel Freitag (Guard, Breck), and Isaiah Johnson-Arigu (Forward, Totino-Grace).
All five finalists will be playing D-I basketball next season. Isaac Asuma will stay in state and play for the Gophers.
The Ms. Basketball Award will be announced this week on Friday. The six finalists include, Goodhue guard Elisabeth Gadient, Hopkins guard Liv McGill, Minnetonka guard Tori McKinney, Benilde-St. Margaret’s guard Olivia Olson and Mountain Iron-Buhl guard Jordan Zubich.
