(KWNO)-A man who was drunk and cooking caused a fire at a Winona apartment. According to police, the fire started around 2:00 a.m. at the residence in the 450 block of Sioux Street. A spokesperson said a man and woman were at the apartment at the time. The man told officers he was cooking and left something on the stove to use the bathroom. The police report states the man and woman were both intoxicated. The fire melted the stove, oven and over-the-range microwave. The apartment sustained significant smoke damage and the man and woman had to find another place to stay. The police spokesperson said criminal charges are unlikely.
