(KWMN)- The high school boys state basketball champions were crowned over the weekend, with some programs finding their first titles, and others solidifying their dynasty.
Class A
Cherry 78-40 Fertile-Beltrami
-Cherry finds its first ever state title in program history. They had reached the state tournament the past two seasons, and it took a third to finally be crowned at the end. Cherry didn’t trail a single second in the game. Isaac Asuma, who scored 12 points in the win, is the second ranked prospect in the state, and has committed to play for Ben Johnson at the U of M next season.
Class AA
Breck School 76-72 Lake City
-Lead by University of Wisconsin commit, Daniel Freitag, Breck earned their first ever title in program history in just their second ever trip to the state tournament. Freitag scored 33 points and grabbed eight boards. Freitag will head to Madison to play with the Badgers in the Fall. For Lake City, in their first trip to state since 2019, they fall short to a future D1 player.
Class AAA
Totino-Grace 73-64 Mankato East
-Totino-Grace wins their third straight state championship. Totino-Grace is the third AAA school to accomplish a three-peat, joining DeLaSalle, who won six straight from 2012-2017 and Minneapolis Patrick Henry, who won four straight from 2000-2003. Forward Isaiah Johnson-Arigu scored 25 in the win, and he’ll be taking his talents to the D-1 level as well. Johsnon-Arigu committed to Miami in November and will look to bring a winning background to Jim Larranaga’s Hurricanes.
Class AAAA
Minnetonka 72-61 Wayzata
-Minnetonka claims their first state title since 2008, beating a Wayzata side that has reached the state final in four straight seasons–winning twice, and losing twice. Jackson McAndrew, 6’9 forward for Wayzata and the top ranked prospect in the state, ends his high school career 40 minutes short from the title. He will be playing for Creighton next season.
