By Jason Melillo Mar 4, 2024 | 7:00 AM

(KWNO)-Set in post-World War I Minnesota, the film Sweetland is an “old fashioned romance quietly doubling as a commentary on immigration and American identity.” The film follows Inge, a German mail-order bride who comes to Minnesota to marry a young Norwegian farmer named Olaf.

But anti-German sentiment leads to a local minister forbidding the marriage. Inge and Olaf fall in love anyway and inspire the community to unite around a friend of Olaf’s whose farm is being foreclosed on. The film will be shown at 7:00 p.m. at the Winona Arts Center on March 8. Doors open at 6:30 and tickets $5. For more information visit the Winona Arts Center website.
