Winona State Womens Basketball Hits the Road for NSIC Round One Matchup Between MSU-Moorhead Tonight; Head Coach, Ana Wurtz, Joins the WSN

(KWMN)- The Winona State women’s basketball team will open their conference tournament on the road, as underdogs, against the Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons.

The Warrior women earned the #9 seed in the conference, one spot behind Moorhead who earned the #8 seed, and the last seed that hosted the first round of games. In the NSIC pre-season coaches’ poll, the Warriors were tabbed to finish 12th, outpacing expectations.

Earlier this season, the Warriors lost to Moorhead 75-62 in McCown. It was a game that the Warriors struggled to shoot from deep, posting a mere 26% from behind the arc.

Winona State finished their regular season at 10-17, and 9-13 in conference play. They closed the season on the best stretch to date, winning five of their last seven games and sweeping their final weekend over Bemidji and Crookston. Ideally that’s a sign that this team is playing their best ball at the most crucial point of the season.

With a win tonight, the Warriors would advance to the Pentagon stage of the NSIC tournament, where all games are played at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, SD. Home of the Augustana Vikings. A loss, and their season ends.

The Women will tip off at 6:00 p.m. in Moorhead later tonight.

Head coach for the Warriors, Ana Wurtz, joined the Winona Sports Network, to discuss last weekend’s sweep, and the conference tournament that lies ahead.
