Two Burnsville police officers and a Fire Department paramedic were shot and killed at a home early Sunday morning after an hours long standoff following a domestic abuse call. The gunman, who had barricaded himself inside the home with a woman and seven children, died after turning his weapon on himself. Governor Tim Walz. Governor Walz is asking Minnesotans to take pause this week and says the state is ready to assist.
“This is not going to go away in the next few weeks. It’s not going to go away when the investigation is done. These families are forever impacted. And we still have Minnesotans willing to take an oath, sign up, do the work, and know this can happen. And that speaks volumes about this community, speaks volumes about Minnesotans,” said Walz.
The three victims are Burnsville Police Officers Paul Emstrand and Matthew Ruge and firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth. Finseth is a native of Rochester. Minnesota B-C-A Superintendent Drew Evans says all the kids got out safely.
