(KWNO)- A Winona Senior High School gym teacher allegedly had sexual relationships with three different female students dating back to 2016. According to Winona Police, in January a student reported that while enrolled at the high school in 2022 she was involved in a sexual relationship with Eric Dione Birth. Police started an investigation and subsequently two more students reported having a sexual relationship with Birth in 2016 and 2017. A police spokesperson said multiple interviews and examination of electronic devices and communications between Birth and the victims led to Birth’s arrest on Thursday.
Birth is 29 years old and is listed as a physical education teacher on the Winona Area Public Schools website. WAPS administration was made aware of the investigation on January 3, according to a statement, and Birth was immediately put on leave. A report was also made with the Minnesota Department of Education. The police spokesperson said Birth has worked at the high school in some capacity since at least 2016. Birth was a running back for the Winona State University football team and a football coach at Winona Senior High. Birth is charged with 3rd Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and will likely make his first court appearance on Friday.
