Winona Library collaborates with local artist to celebrate 125 years

By Jason Melillo Jan 14, 2024 | 6:48 AM

(KWNO)-The Winona Public Library building is 125 years old in 2024 and a local artist is helping Friends of WPL highlight the milestone. Jose Pelaez created a unique design using “vintage photographs and marketing materials from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.”

“The logo, reminiscent of a hand or wax seal stamp, serves as a symbolic imprint of the library’s enduring legacy, while all other graphics pay homage to the time period, echoing the aesthetic of historical documents and artifacts,” Peláez said. “I aimed to ensure that every aspect of the design was steeped in the library’s storied past.”

Exclusive anniversary merchandise can be purchased at the Winona Public Library throughout the year and will debut at the January 22 documentary film premiere of “Laird’s Legacy: A History of the Winona Public Library.”
