‘Paws’ on walking your dog during cold snap

(KWNO)-The Animal Humane Society is reminding pet owners about the danger of extreme cold for their furry friends. With snow, wind and plummeting temperatures hitting Minnesota this weekend, AHS’s Sarah Bhimani says dogs can get frostbite just like humans.

“They are particularly susceptible to frostbite on their paw pads, the tip of their tails and the tips of their ears. So if you’re taking your dog out for a potty break – you want to keep on eye on how they’re reacting,” says Bhimani.

Pet owners can take shorter walks with their dogs and use booties to protect their paws. Bhimani says cats should not go outside in the extreme cold.
