(KWNO)-A woman is dead after falling from the bluff at John Latsch State Park on Wednesday night. The Winona County Sheriff’s Office received a request from the Minneapolis Police Department to do a welfare check on a 33-year-old female. Minneapolis PD then got a ping cell phone location in the area of the park and Winona County Sheriff’s Office Deputies made contact with the woman at the top of the bluff around 10:00 p.m.
According to a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, deputies and other law enforcement negotiators spoke with the woman for about 90 minutes. She was agitated at times causing negotiators to keep their distance and around 11:30 p.m. the woman jumped or fell from the bluff. Officials on the scene did not see the woman go over the bluff. She fell about 100 feet and died at the scene. Her name will be released after next of kin is notified.
