(KWNO)-Winona police searching a house on Friday found more than 600 grams of cocaine and $12,000 in cash, along with other drug paraphernalia. Officers were looking for a woman who allegedly brandished a gun during an altercation at a bar in the 1000 block of East 9th Street on December 12. Video from the bar confirmed the woman had a gun and police identified her as 49-year-old Tanya McCain. McCain was prohibited from having a gun due to her criminal record.
Officers made contact with McCain on Friday and subsequently searched her car and apartment for the weapon, finding a small revolver in the apartment. According to a police spokesperson, McCain admitted to officers it was the weapon she had at the bar. Officers found the drugs and cash in the course of searching for the gun. McCain was arrested and is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance and ineligible possession of a firearm. The spokesperson says the cocaine was in five bags that were each “the size of tennis balls or softballs” and stated he has “never seen that much (cocaine) in one call.” The total amount was 620 grams with an estimated street value of $60,000. McCain remains in custody.
