(KWNO)-A semi-truck crashed near Dakota on Tuesday spilling part of the chemical load it was hauling. According to the State Patrol accident report the truck was traveling east on County Road 3 when it crossed Highway 61 and rolled over, coming to a rest on the railroad tracks. A Winona County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson says the truck was carrying glufosinate-ammonium, an herbicide widely used by farmers to control weeds and some of the chemicals spilled out, along with fuel from the truck. State agencies and a private railroad company collaborated on the cleanup. The extent of damage to the area is unknown.

The Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said the spill happened about 300 feet from the Mississippi River but it’s also unclear if any of the chemicals got into the river. A post on the Pickwick Fire and Rescue Facebook page states the truck had a “break failure coming down County Road 3.” The driver of the truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
