(KWNO)-The Winona Area Public Schools School Board officially approved an early end to the 2023-24 school year for elementary school students in the district. The decision is to accommodate the ongoing geothermal project at Jefferson and W-K Elementary Schools. The last day of school for kids at those schools and at Goodview Elementary will be May 30. Winona Middle School, Winona Senior High School and the Winona Area Learning Center will go through June 6.

The Key Kids Summer Care program will be at Goodview Elementary the week of June 3-7 and then shift to the middle school the next week. WAPS says the early release won’t affect learning and the district will be within the required number of hours and days for student contact. The start of the 2024-25 school year will also change with the first day being September 9 to ensure the heating and cooling project is completed.
