(KWNO)-A Winona High School student allegedly attacked another student on Monday morning. According to police, a 17-year-old boy punched a 14-year-old boy in the face several times in a classroom at the high school. The victim suffered a bruised eye and scratches on his face.

The 17-year-old admitted to the assault when he talked to police and said it stemmed from a verbal conflict he’d had with the victim. The attacker was charged with assault. School staff will handle any further ramifications.

About two hours later police were called back to the high school for a report of two students getting ready to fight in the concourse. School staff intervened before the students started fighting but called police and asked them to cite a 15-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy for disorderly conduct which officers did.
