(KWNO)-Upgrading of the heating systems at Jefferson and Washington-Kosciusko elementary schools is being put on pause as the new school year approaches. The geothermal dehumidification projects have progressed as planned according to a release by Winona Area Public Schools. Some work will continue during the school year outside the buildings and in non-student areas but shouldn’t disrupt learning, according to the statement.

The one thing students will notice is classrooms won’t have ceiling tiles. Since the work will continue next summer WAPS decided not to reinstall the ceiling tiles just to remove them again in a year. The exposed ceiling grid is not a safety hazard, according to the district. The new heating systems are expected to be operational for the 2024-2025 school year.
