Cannabis bill decriminalizes marijuana for kids is ‘ridiculous assertion’

(KWNO)-The Senate author of the recreational cannabis bill is pushing back against some Republicans who claim the new law “effectively legalized marijuana for children.”

“That’s a ridiculous assertion and anyone who has read the bill knows it’s not true. Possession of cannabis is legal today in Minnesota for people 21 and older. It is not legal for kids. It will not be legal for kids,” said Senator Lindsey Port (DFL-Burnsville), the author of the bill.

In fact, Port says the strictest penalties in the bill are for sales of cannabis to minors. Marijuana become legal in Minesota on August 1 but dispensaries are not expected to open until 2025. Local governments will have some autonomy in regulating dispensaries and deciding where marijuana can be smoked.
