(KWNO)-The three elementary schools in the Winona Area Public Schools are being recognized by the Minnesota Department of Education. Goodview Elementary, Jefferson Elementary and Washington-Kosciuskio Elementary are receiving the recognition for implementation of Positive Behavorial Interventions and Supports (PBIS), an evidence-based framework for positive and prosocial behaviors.

PBIS was introduced at the elementary school level by WAPS during the 2019-2020 school year. It aims to help schools set behavioral standards that enhance outcomes for all students. The approach is basically teaching behavioral standards in the same way schools teach academic subjects.

Goodview, Jefferson and W-K are among 87 schools recognized statewide.
