Twins
- Twins were off to a hot start last night, leading 4-1 after two innings, before their fortune turned into misfortune. The Tigers of Detroit scores seven straight runs-including three in the top of the ninth-to win 8-4 and take game one of the series. Twins’ reliever Jovani Moran picked up the loss after four innings from Sonny Gray before him. Byron Buxton made his return to the lineup after a stint on the IL, he went 0-4 last night–Trevor Larnach sent to triple-A in a corresponding move. Twins are now batting .232 as a team on the year, 25th in the league. Game two of the four game set will be tonight at 7:10 p.m. we’ll have the coverage at 6:30 p.m. over on KWNO. Joe Ryan gets the ball for the Twins.
College World Series
- The Baseball College World Series will begin today. The favorite heading into the tournament is Wake Forrest, who remained near the top of the AP poll for the majority of the regular season. Wake is followed by LSU and Florida in terms of favorites. The Cinderella team in Oral Roberts will face off with TCU in the opening game today at 1:00 p.m.
US Open
- One heck of a start in the US Open yesterday. Two players–Xander Schauffele and Rickie Fowler both shot 62’s to lead after round one. Since 1983 there have been over 66,000 rounds in major golf tournaments, of those, only one golfer has hit a 62. That number was doubled in one day at Los Angeles Country Club. The early times are already out there, and it seems that the USGA and LACC have somewhat taken it up a notch in terms of difficulty, but not as much as we may have thought they were. Wyndham Clark is already off to a hot start with three birdies on the front nine to take a one stroke lead at 9-under. As it sits at the time of the posting of this article, the projected cut is +1. That can change fairly quickly.
U.S. Men’s National Team
- The U.S. Men’s Soccer team took the field last night in the CONCACAF Nations League Semifinals against Mexico. The American men routed Mexico 3-0 behind two goals from Christian Pulisic. During the match, reports surfaced that the USMNT will be re-hiring Gregg Berhalter as the team’s manager, the contract will be through the 2026 World Cup. The upcoming World Cup will be hosted by the United States as well as Canada and Mexico.
