(KWNO)- Yesterday, the Winona Police Department released another update on the missing person in Winona, Madeline (Maddi) Kingsbury.
Maddi was last seen on March 31, and the WPD has been investigation her disappearance since the following day on April 1. The WPD say they remain extremely concerned for her safety.
Law enforcement and first responder teams continue to conduct daily, targeted searches for Maddi, based on information generated by the investigation and on tips from the public, the WPD say. In the last week, there have been foot, aerial and water searches. The WPD say they are using all available resources in the search, including sonar, submersibles, and dog teams. The WPD thanks the many people who have come from near and far to assist in the search.
The WPD is again asking property owners in Winona, Fillmore, and Houston Counties to walk their land and check outbuildings on the property. They ask to look for anything unusual or out-of-place. They are aware people may have already done this but are asking for property owners to do it again, referencing the weather conditions possibly revealing new signs that weren’t there before. If anything suspicious or concerning is to be found, contact the local law enforcement agency in the area.
The update states, “This investigation is active and ongoing. We are not prepared to identify a suspect or person of interest at this time. We are continuing to follow several paths of inquiry as we work to determine what happened to Maddi, and if warranted, hold accountable the person or persons responsible for her disappearance…We are committed to doing everything possible to find her and remain confident we will bring her home.”
When asked about why there is no suspect or person of interest, Bonney Bowman, spokesperson for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, responded with “It doesn’t mean we don’t have one [suspect or person of interest].” This implies that there is a good chance there is a suspect or person of interest, but they don’t want to negatively affect the investigation by releasing that information.
The WPD also said that if anyone has or find information that they think could be valuable, please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or online at crimstoppersmn.org.
