(KWNO)- On March 11, Winona County Deputies, as well as the Winona Police Department, assisted the Lewiston Police Department in a high-speed pursuit.

On Saturday, on Highway 14 and Rolling Hill Rd. a Lewiston Police officer began to make a traffic stop for one vehicle by signaling his lights and driving behind the vehicle in question. The vehicle was slow to stop before he then fled the officer attempting to pull them over, according to the Winona County Sherriff’s Office.

The vehicle began to flee eastbound on Highway 14 into Stockton. A Winona County Deputy was tailing him as he was driving away from officers at a high rate of speed.

After a brief amount of time, Lewiston Police halted the pursuit because they had the driver’s registration information. When they contacted the owner of the vehicle, it was a woman who picked up the phone and told officers that her husband was the one driving the vehicle.

Assisting officers from the Winona Police department used stop sticks to try and slow the vehicle down.

Eventually, the vehicle came to a stop by Hy-Vee in Winona. A Deputy was there to witness the driver get out of his vehicle and flee officers again. The Deputy tracked down the man and was forced to use his taser gun, to which the officer was finally able to apprehend the culprit.

The driver, Anthony Kauphusman, aged 51 of Rochester, Minn. was arrested and charged with fleeing an officer. According to County Sherriff’s the Deputy who made the arrest said that he could smell alcohol exuding from Kauphusman.
