(KWNO)- The Winona Fire Department and the Winona Water Department, are asking for the community’s cooperation in keeping fire hydrants clear of snow.
The WFD and WWD have already attempted to ask the community to be aware of this, but are reminding the people of Winona, as the problem seems to be persisting.
The WFD says that some property owners are inadvertently burying hydrants as they clear snow from their property.
City crews are working diligently to clear buried hydrants, but the WFD says that this is a difficult and time-consuming task. The WFD is worried that a buried hydrant may be needed at some point to put out a fire.
The WFD asks that the community “Please, for the safety of your family and the residents of your neighborhood, do your part in keeping hydrants clear.
If you are aware of a hydrant that is buried by snow and unable to clear it, call the Fire Department at 507-457-8266.
