(KWNO)- On Saturday, December 24th, around midnight, a Winona Police Officer pulled over a vehicle after an improper turn and the windows being illegally tinted.
At first, it was a normal traffic stop in which the Officer was going to charge the driver, 27-year-old Derrick Carpenter, with Driving without Revocation and no proof of insurance.
However, according to Winona Police, because the vehicles driver side window was not working properly, Carpenter had to open the driver’s side door to speak with the Officer. When that occurred, the Officer noticed a small clear bag of a green, leafy type substance that Carpenter admitted to being THC.
The Officer then searched the vehicle and found another clear bag that had trace amounts of methamphetamines. Although it would have been warranted, the Officer decided against taking Carpenter to jail because it was Christmas Eve and there was only a trace amount in the bag, and instead cited him for the possession, says Winona Police.
Carpenter was officially charged with 5th degree possession, possession of THC and driving without revocation.
