(KWNO)-On the second of eight nights of Chanukah, a public Chanukah menorah erected at Levee Park Patio will be lit by Rabbi Shlomie Greene at 5 p.m. on Monday, December 19th, as part of a community-wide celebration.
Organized by Chabad of Southern Minnesota, the event will feature dignitaries and other special guests from within the Winona community.
Donuts, latkes, and hot apple cider refreshments will be available for enjoyment before and after the menorah lighting ceremony. The celebration will also feature music and other holiday fun, including holiday giveaways and pictures with the Dreidel Man.
Rabbi Greene shared, “The message of Chanukah is the message of light. The nature of light is that it is always victorious over darkness. A small amount of light dispels a lot of darkness. Another act of goodness and kindness, another act of light, can make all the difference.”
The unprecedented public display of Chanukah has become a staple of Jewish cultural and religious life in America and has forever altered American practice and awareness of the festival.
One of five menorahs sponsored by Chabad of Southern Minnesota in the region, the Winona menorah is intended to help children and adults discover and enjoy the message of the holiday.
