(KWNO)-Merchants Bank’s 10 Days of Giving Fast Facts:

The 2021 campaign raised 272,162 pounds of food for Winona Volunteer Services. That’s a total of more than four million pounds of food donated since the drive began in 1989, resulting in thousands of people being helped.

In 2021, an average of 466 households were registered for the supplemental food shelf each month, with 231 of those households being first-time recipients of food from Winona Volunteer Services.

During 2021, Winona Volunteer Services distributed 426,719 pounds of food and helped over 2,700 individuals via their food shelf or emergency food services.

A single donated dollar allows two pounds of food to be brought onto the program’s shelves.

Financial donations, even small ones, are of significant importance, as those donations allow Winona Volunteer Services to purchase food at a discount to stock the organization’s shelves. For instance, Winona Volunteer Services can pay just $15 to acquire 100 pounds of food valued at $50 through resources such as the regional food bank.

Winonans are encouraged to participate in many of the events happening now through December 11th.

Food donations are accepted at the Winona Volunteer Services food shelf.

Financial donations in the form of checks or money orders should be made out to “10 Days of Giving” and mailed or brought to Merchants Bank, 102 E. 3rd Street, Winona, MN 55987.

Financial donations are also accepted electronically on the WVS website, winonavs.org.
