(KWNO)-Irene Renee Burns, 32, of Winona, was charged with second-degree DWI, driving after revocation, and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.
She was arrested on Wednesday, November 23rd, after officers were called to the 50-block of W. 5th St., near the post office.
Officers arrived at the Winona post office after reports of an adult female, later identified as Burns, were called into local authorities. Burns arrived at the post office with her three children in her car, ages 10, 9, and 5.
At the post office counter, while the children were waiting in the car, Burns was nodding off.
The officers had received a similar complaint about Burns about 30 minutes earlier, claiming that she had possibly picked up her children from school while intoxicated, but they were unable to locate her or the vehicle at the time.
Officers made contact with Burns at the post office and found that she was alert but appeared to be intoxicated.
Although she denied drinking, officers found that she had bloodshot, watery eyes, the odor of alcohol emanating from herself, and slurred speech.
As a result, officers then administered several field sobriety tests to her before ultimately arresting her for suspicion of DWI.
She later agreed to provide a breath sample to officers on the state-certified DMT, with results of 0.08 percent while in jail.
During the arrest, a THC vape pen was also discovered on her person, and officers found that her driver’s license status was revoked.
Her children were placed with a responsible adult.
