Nov 22, 2022 | 1:00 PM

(KWNO)-On December 3, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., the Winona Arts Center will present Sam Miltich and Chris Bates’ performances, themed “The Improvised Life: Exploring Intersections of Mental Health and Creativity through Jazz.”

Sowing the seeds of hope through Sam Miltich’s own story and original compositions, the concert will feature an evening of improvisations by gypsy jazz musicians while highlighting the cultural contributions of famous artists with mental illness.

Miltich’s accolades include playing with the Hot Club of San Francisco, touring internationally with the world-renowned Robin Nolan Trio, performing at Lincoln Center in NYC for the Django Reinhardt All Star Tour, and winning numerous awards.

Chris Bates is a talented master bassist. Having toiled across a wide array of the musical landscape for 25 years, Bates continues to be the impetus behind the Minnesota music scene. He has won a McKnight Composer’s Fellowship for his writing work with Motion Poets, is busy with several bands, and has had many recordings.

Tickets to the concert may be purchased for $20 in advance or $25 at the door, at Hardt’s Music until 4 p.m. on December 2nd, or on Eventbrite. The coffeehouse opens at 6 p.m., followed by the concert at 7 p.m.
