Minnesota Cops to Crack Down on Speeding in July

By Jake Litman Jun 28, 2022 | 9:46 AM

(KWNO)- Law enforcement around the state of Minnesota are coming together to crack down on excessive speeding on state roadways.

In a press release from Winona County Sherriff, Ron Ganrude, he points to poor driving habits that originated during the pandemic and have carried over to now, as a large problem on Minnesota roadways.

Ganrude says that speed has been a major contributing factor in significantly increasing roadway fatalities and serious injury crashes in the past couple of years. The number of traffic fatalities hasn’t been nearly this high in the last decade.

Coordinated by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety and funded by the National Highway Traffic Administration, Minnesota Law Enforcement all throughout the state will be upping the number of speed patrol stops on state highways.

With widespread travel coming over the holiday weekend, county officers will also be participating in Highway 14 and 19 border-to-border speed patrol saturation on Friday, July 1st.
