NELSON, Wis. (KWNO)-A Redwood Falls, Minn. man was killed following a head-on crash on the Mississippi River crossing in Wabasha Tuesday.
Authorities responded to the report of a crash involving two motorcycles and a vehicle on the Wisconsin side of the bridge. A press release from the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office indicates that 67-year-old Douglas Hildebrandt was crossing into Wabasha when he was struck by a motorist heading in the opposite direction.
First responders performed life-saving measures at the scene. Hildebrandt was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.
The motorist was identified as 55-year-old Jacqueline Britt of Alma. Authorities say Britt entered the opposite lane before colliding with Hildebrandt.
Britt was transported to an area hospital from the scene by ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. A second motorcyclist, who attempted to avoid the collision, was evaluated at the scene by emergency personnel but was not transported for further care.
The crash is under investigation. The bridge was closed for most of the afternoon on Tuesday.
