Local Expert Shares Tips Before Firing Up Air Conditioner

WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Above average temperatures forecasted for this week may have Winona residents firing up their air conditioners for the first time this year.

Joe Sobkowiak manages Schneider Heating and Air Conditioning’s Winona branch and says it’s a good idea to give your A/C until a look before reaching for the thermostat.

“Make sure nothing has happened over the course of winter. No critters decided to chew up any wires or anything you can see on the outside of it,” Sobkowiak said. “It’s also a good time with it being so nice out that if there’s any debris around the unit go ahead and remove that. Go ahead and clean it up with just a hose and water and turn on your thermostat and hope for the best.”

Sobkowiak also reminds homeowners to make sure nothing is covering their unit and to replace the unit’s air filter. He also says to make sure there’s power being routed to the A/C unit.

Forecasted high temperatures are expected to be in the 80’s later this week, with Thursday high approaching 90.
