WILSON TWP., Minn. A three-vehicle crash on Hwy. 43 near Winona resulted in four people being hospitalized for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The Minnesota State Patrol says 55-year-old Adam M. Elmi of Rochester was traveling north when he entered the southbound lanes in an attempt to pass a northbound Peterbilt Tractor north of the intersection of 43 and County Rd. 21. The state crash report says Elmi collided with a southbound vehicle driven by 34-year-old Melissa A. Gruber of Winona.
Elmi was taken to Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse. His passengers, 47-year-old Trisha A. Fenske of Winona and 63-year-old Debra Jo Anderson of La Crosse were brought to Winona Health.
Gruber, the lone occupant of the southbound vehicle, was also brought to Winona Health. The Peterbilt tractor driver was not injured.
First responders requested a medical helicopter and the jaws of life when they arrived on the scene, according to Winona County Sheriff Ron Ganrude. Hwy. 43 was closed in both directions between County Rd. 21 and Homer Rd. for approximately two hours.
