WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-The Winona District of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge is seeking volunteers for its event dubbed “The Great Mississippi River Cleanup.”
Volunteers will pick up debris from the water and river islands throughout Pool 6, which runs from north of Winona to Trempealeau. The refuge says the cleanup will require walking through sandy shores and brush.
Organizers say they need private boat owners to help transport volunteers to cleanup sites. The event is scheduled for Sat. April 23 from 9 a.m. until noon.
Cleanup crews will meet at a staging area on John Latsch Island. Those interested in volunteering are asked to pre-register.
