Winona Medical Providers Preparing for Mankato Ave. Reconstruction Project

WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Winona’s medical care providers are preparing for work to begin on the Mankato Ave. Reconstruction Project.

Winona Health officials say entrances for emergency services and the rest of the campus will remain accessible and be clearly marked throughout the work. Winona Area Ambulance Operations Director Andy Teska says everyone will have to do their part during the project.

“It’s going to take a little bit of patience on everybody’s part,” Teska said during an interview on KWNO’s In the Know Monday morning. “We’re going to be able to get through there. One of the big things we want people to remember is to pay attention to their surroundings.”

Teska advises motorists to put away the distractions while navigating the work zone. He tells drivers not to panic if they encounter an ambulance in the construction zone.

“What we like to see is that people just continue moving forward [at a] nice even pace until you can get to an area where you can pull off safely,” Teska said. He said drivers should not suddenly swerve around barrels or off the road.

Teska also said drivers should not slam on their brakes if there’s an emergency vehicle behind them.

The project begins on Mon., April 11. Crews will install four roundabouts along Mankato Ave. between Sarnia St. and Mankato Ave. For more information on the project click here.
