Fools Five Road Race Raises Nearly $90,000

LEWISTON, Minn. (KWNO)-The Fools Five Road Race in Lewiston raised nearly $90,000 this past weekend.  

Organizers say the event brought in over $28,000 for a local cancer support group that helps community members cover treatment costs. There was an auction Friday night followed by over 1,300 people pounding the pavement for the race on Saturday. 

Students at Lewiston-Altura also raised money for the event. It was the first time since 2019 the event was held during its usual first weekend in April.  

Watching the sea of runners going down Main Street is just plain heartwarming,” said Judy Hovelson, co-race director.

“Today brought back the sense of normalcy that the Fools Five is known for,” Co-Race Director Dan Goss said.

Speaker and Lewiston nativeJack Rader has battled cancer three times. After going through treatment at Mayo Clinic for over several months, he is now in remission.

“My mother told me many times ‘There are a lot of good people in the world, you just have to find them.’ Mom, look down, I have found hundreds of them,” Rader told the crowd.

Next year’s Fools Five beings with an auction on Fri., March 31, followed by the 45th running of the race on Saturday, April 1.
