(KWMN)-The Winona State Baseball team dropped a three-game series at Loughrey Field to Minot State this week, winning the first game and losing the following two.

In game one of the series, Nicolas Herold dominated in route to a 4-3 victory. Wheeling and dealing for six innings, allowing three runs and striking out nine batters, the Warrior bats needed to come up big for him in the bottom of the 6th, and that they did. With two outs and runners on Derek Baumgartner started things off with an RBI single, eventually making the trip all around the bases as the winning run off of a Dane Weiland RBI single. the Warriors take the first 4-3.

The good fortune ran out for the Warriors in the second game as Minot beat the Warriors in every facet, turning it into a 7-1 victory.  Minot’s Ricky Apodaca was too good for the Warrior bats, tossing eight shutout innings, while garnering 12 K’s and only two hits.

The third game was more of the same, if not worse than game two. Minot got off to a hot start, scoring seven runs in the first inning as they killed the Warriors hopes before they ended the top half of the inning. They tacked on the next seven runs in the 6th inning, having scored all 14 runs in a mere two innings of work. Kyle Yu was a lone bright spot for the Warrior bats, going 2-3 from the leadoff spot and scoring the Warriors only run. Cameron Kramer gets the loss for the Warriors, dropping his record to 0-3 on the season.

The Warriors move to 4-12 on the season and 2-3 in conference play after the series. They were scheduled to host Southwest Minnesota State University in a double-header on Wednesday, but that matchup has already been cancelled. The Warriors will now turn their attention to the weekend where they face the longest road trip of the conference season, taking on the U of Mary in Bismarck, ND.
