(KWMN)-

The Saint Mary’s Cardinals Baseball team had a double header vs. Wheaton University yesterday in Illinois.

It wasn’t easy, yet the Cardinals came away with the sweep due to some late game heroics.

Down 2-1 heading into the 7th inning (the final inning in game 1), the Cardinals rallied with an RBI double from Tanner Bauman to tie the game. It was Tyler O’brien that came up in the clutch, notching a two-out RBI single to allow Bauman to cross home plate and take the lead 3-2. Andrew Fisher notched his first collegiate save in the bottom of the inning to give the Cards the first victory of the day.

In the second game it was much less stressful for the Cardinals as they took it handedly, 8-2. Trevon VanEgtern cranked his 2nd bomb of the season to score two runs and make it 6-2, starter Jake Mercado walks away with the win.

The Cardinals return to the diamond Sunday as they travel west to Mankato to take on Bethany Lutheran College in a double-header.
