MINNESOTA CITY, Minn. (KWNO)-An Altoona, Wis. man was arrested on suspicion of burglarizing the home of a Winona County Sheriff’s Deputy.
The Deputy was alerted to the alleged burglary by two juveniles living in the home at the 23,000 block of Whitman Deering Dr. Friday afternoon. Upon entry to his home, the deputy discovered several broken-out windows, according to the report from the Winona County Sheriff’s Office.
Once he cleared his home, the deputy reported his squad car and reported the squad’s camera showed the suspect attempted to break into the squad with a baton stolen from the deputy’s home, then took off into a nearby wooded area after failing to break into the squad. Multiple agencies responded to the area and apprehended the suspect without incident, authorities say.
Authorities identified the man arrested as 22-year-old Derrick M. Rapley. Along with the baton, Rapley was accused of taking boots and clothing from the residence and rummaging through the home.
He was referred to the Winona County Attorney on suspicion of first-degree burglary, theft, and damage to property.
The sheriff’s office said Rapley also had outstanding felony warrants. The two juveniles who were inside of the home at the time of burglary were not hurt.
