WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Earlier this month, Gov. Tim Walz announced the state would bring in 100 nurses from a national firm to ease staffing shortages at Minnesota hospitals.

Four nurses have been deployed to Winona Health says President/CEO Rachelle Schultz. She says the nurses will give Winona Health’s staff, who Schultz praised for their efforts during the pandemic, a reprieve.

“It’s been a really long last two years and really tough last couple of months so this is really good,” Schultz said during an interview on KWNO’s In the Know Monday.

Schultz said the nurses will help in intensive care med surge. She said the regional coalitions were allocated a certain number of nurses and used a variety of factors to determine those nurses’ destinations.

Schultz said 23 of the 100 staff were sent to southeast Minnesota. Each health care entity has the extra help on hand for 60 days.
