Winona County Offering At-Home COVID Tests to Those Facing Financial Barriers

By TJ Jan 20, 2022 | 12:48 PM

WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Winona County Health and Human Services is offering take-home COVID-19 tests to residents who face financial barriers to access testing.

Winona County Public Health Supervisor Melanie Tatge says the county has received the at-home test to distribute. She says the tests are for a limited group of residents.

“Just because of the funding mechanism of the tests but also just due to the limited supply of the tests. We want to make sure those in need or perhaps may have any barriers can access tests,” Tatge said Wednesday during an interview on KWNO’s In the Know.

Tatge said those without health insurance qualify to get a test. As of Jan. 15, health insurance companies are required to cover the cost of at-home COVID tests.

Earlier this week, the Biden Administration launched a website that allows Americans to order up to four at-home test kits at no personal cost.
