(KWNO)-The National Weather Service La Crosse (NWS) has released the damage survey results of Winona County’s historic tornado that hit Wednesday night.
The funnel was classified as an EF-0. It was estimated to have peak wind speeds of 85 mph and was 40 yards wide.
The funnel had a path of 0.6 miles and damaged trees a garage and several outbuildings along County Rd. 23 between Lewiston and Wyattville. No injuries were reported.
The tornado was among seven tornados confirmed in the NWS La Crosse coverage area. Two were confirmed in Wisconsin and four in Iowa.
The Winona County tornado was one of two reported across Minnesota Wednesday. The other was confirmed in Freeborn County.
The tornados and severe thunderstorms caused widespread commercial and residential property damage and knocked out power to hundreds of residents in the area.
There had never been a December tornado reported in Minnesota until Wednesday night.
