WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Winona Police say a man suspected of stealing copper wire is behind bars.
Officers were called to the scene of a copper wire fire along the riverfront on the east end of Winona Thursday. Officers on Friday learned over $1,100 worth of copper wire was taken from Modern Transport.
Police returned to the scene of the Friday and noticed the copper was taken from the burn pile. Officers then went to Miller Scrap where they appended the suspected thief, identified as 59-year-old Kirk P. Peterson of Winona.
Police say Peterson was attempting to sell the wire when they arrived.
