WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-Winona’s Alternate Side Parking Ordinance goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Monday morning.
“Every year, there is going to be a bunch of people that get tickets,” said Mayor Scott Sherman, who is encouraging citizens to spread the word about alternate side parking. “The reason is they either don’t hear about it, they forget about it, or they just don’t know we have alternate side parking.”
Vehicles must be parked on the odd side of the street between 12:01 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Monday. Vehicle owners parked on the even side during the enforcement window could be fined $25.
Parking in downtown lot #1 is also prohibited from 12:01 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. on odd-numbered days starting Monday. Sherman says the Alternate Side Parking Ordinance is all about making streets safer.
“Our goal isn’t to get as many tickets as possible, by any means. In fact, that revenue that comes from that, it’s a drop in the bucket, in terms of our overall budget,” Sherman said.
The mayor says the ordinance allows snowplows to properly clear the city’s streets after a snowfall.
