WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-The application window is now open for the Winona area’s next Habitat for Humanity homeowner.
“We have built homes with teachers, with small businesses owners, with veterans, and with people doing all kinds of local work,” Executive Director Amanda Hedlund said during an interview on KWNO’s In the Know Monday morning.
Those who earn less than 60% of the area’s median income are eligible to apply. Hedlund says potential homeowners also need to contribute 325 volunteer hours of sweat equity and must have a need for affordable housing.
“If you’re overcrowded, if you’re paying more than you can afford, if your home or the place that you are renting is in a state of disrepair or unsafe, those are great reasons to look to habitat,” said Hedlund.
She says the home will be built be build on a half lot east of Mankato St. along Broadway St. It will be the 53rd house habitat has constructed.
The application window closes on Dec. 15. Habitat will host a community information session with snacks and refreshments to answer questions about the application process, how to qualify, and more at the East End Rec on Monday, November 15th and Tuesday, November 16th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
