WAPS/WPD: Cyber School Shooting Threat Unsubstantiated

WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-The Winona Area Public Schools District (WAPS) and Winona Police Department say a social media threat involving a school shooting is unsubstantiated.  

Winona Police say they received numerous complaints of a screenshot social media message late Sunday night and early Monday morning. Officers say the subject in the post identified themselves and Alex Anderson and indicated plans to shoot up central high school.  

The PD says they notified WAPS officials who said they were already aware of the threat. In a statement, WAPS said the threat originated in Missouri and there is no credible threat to the high school or any WAPS buildings.  

Officials say the threat is circulating nationally. The WPD and WAPS thanked community members who reported the post.

WAPS encouraged families to use this incident as an opportunity to talk about school safety reminded everyone to say something if they hear or see something unsafe.
