Driver Faces Charges for Hitting, Killing Skateboarder in Wabasha

WABASHA, Minn. (KWNO)-An 84-year-old man, accused of striking and killing a 15-year-old girl with his vehicle in Wabasha, is facing multiple felony charges.

Bernard W. Quist was charged with Criminal Vehicular Homicide and Driver to Stop for Collision Involving Another Person, according to the criminal complaint. The complaint says Quist struck the girl at the 700 block of Grant Blvd. West. Officers say life-saving measures attempted at the scene were not successful.

Witnesses say Quist left the scene. Authorities say Quist then contacted law enforcement and returned to the site of the collision where he admitted to striking the girl with his vehicle and being aware the girl was severely injured or dead, the complaint says.

Quist also admitted to consuming alcohol before the collision, according to the criminal complaint. Authorities say a PBT showed Quist had a blood alcohol content of 0.96.
